The facilities house three separate gravure/flexo printers that cover a wide range of potential needs. Firstly, the IGT printability tester F1 is used to assess the printability of developed inks. It is compatible with flexo printing only and used with a variety of solvent-based inks, UV inks and water inks for a large set of substrates. Secondly, the Norbert Schläfli Labratester is a sheet-fed gravure printer used for testing gravure, flexographic and functional inks and printability on various flexible substrates. It is typically used for small scale functional test patterns with relatively coarse alignment being acceptable. When in need of finer features, we recommend the use of our third gravure machine; the Norbert Schläfli Testacolor 171. The testacolor rotary sheet-fed press is a more advanced printing and coating system compatible with both gravure and flexo printing. The inline optical alignment system allows for high precision and reproducibility of the prints (repeat accuracy <20 μm). The testacolor can be used in the project and potentially sold to the user if interested.
